This article presents a hierarchical finite-set model predictive control (MPC) scheme to enable autonomous operation and self-balancing cascaded multilevel inverter. The proposed approach is an alternative MPC based on generic cost function, which in some applications ill fit or challenging design. controller has framework eliminate the overall function optimization associated weight factor design stage of objectives. formulation allows for multiobjective with cost-tolerance framework. concept well suited simplify H-bridge inverters at grid-edge advanced functionality. achieves active reactive power switching event reduction while equalizing draw from independent voltage sources. latter these objectives made possible by objective tracking. modularized each phase, making system robust unbalanced grid conditions. explained depth simulation, then tested experimentally hardware.
